Now that the novelty of snow had faded, Eren could honestly say that he is thoroughly done with the cold and is ready to go outside without the air hurting his face. Being cooped up isn’t his thing.

But for now, he could put up with being inside if only to stay warm. Eren returned to the apartment complex after a coffee run, and now pressing the call button for the lift to take him to his floor. It took some practice to learn how the damn thing worked, and maybe after a few broken buttons and a dented door did he finally figure it out.

The doors slide open, revealing that the lift is already occupied.

“Oh, hey.” Eren greeted casually, stepping into the elevator with a bit of a wave. Once the doors closed, the low hum of the ropes moving could be heard. Eren leaned against the “oh shit bar” against the wall, taking a sip of his coffee while he waited.

It hadn’t been a minute before a groan resounded, and the elevator creaked to a halt, causing the lights to flicker overhead. Not really thinking anything of it, Eren pushed a button on the panel, to which there was no response. Then he pressed another, to no avail. Again, but still there are no signs of life in the elevator aside from Eren and the other passenger. Dread began to creep up on him.

“Uhh…shit.” He looked at the stranger, his expression that of borderline panic.

“Yo.” Kaito had barely looked at the other teen as the elevator doors closed, focusing on the thrumming of the unfortunately loud machinery. He had been stopping by the apartments to drop something off for his bird - god bless her soul - and had a small parcel hanging from the crook of his elbow none-too-haphazardly.

There were rather few stimuli, but they were starting to get overwhelming in the small elevator. There was the smell of coffee, and the whirring of the machines; seriously, the thing was so loud, it was a surprise it hadn’t-

broken….down………..yet.

As the elevator ground to a halt and the lights flickered above, Kaito tensed, the slightest shift in his posture sending the box in his arms falling to the ground. Okay, elevator stopped, no problem, and there was another kid in here with him. He could…deal. He could deal.

“……exit.” His voice was rather quiet, keeping his attention focused on the coffee that had almost been overwhelming before, the smell now distracting him from his other thoughts. “Elevators should have….top exits.” He wasn’t going to stand around and wait for somebody to come save them, he wasn’t the damsel in distress type, but he couldn’t do much at the moment except instruct the other on what he knew.

(If he looked up, and the top exit wasn’t there, he wasn’t quite sure what he’d do, himself.)
