“Kuroba-kun, I understand you hold KID with a mark of respect, as a majority do, but KID is not a hero.” Saguru replied quietly, pocketing his hands. “His job isn’t to save people, or to prevent them from death— that’s the job of a detective. If anything, Nakamori-keibu and I should have gotten there quicker.”
He couldn’t say he understood but he could at least imagine what was going through the magician’s head whenever he envisioned Connery’s dead body. His first case had not brought pleasant dreams, either. “More importantly, failing to save an individual is not murder. You mustn’t forget you— he is human.”
“…”
He knew Hakuba was right, to an extent, but didn’t want to admit it. He was wrong to an extent, too. He had begun moonlighting as KID for the sole reason of finding the ones who killed his dad, but…along the way, it had turned into a self-sacrificial means of catching the organization who killed innocents. If people were getting killed along the way, then is was pointless.
“…thanks for the reminder.” He didn’t mean for it to come out as sincere, it was supposed to be sarcastic, but his voice didn’t agree with his brain.
